Gentle, structured movement support for athletes following professional assessment.
Somatix Sport — Return to Movement is designed for athletes and sportspeople whose injury has been professionally assessed and who have been cleared to begin gentle movement.
It might provide a useful bridge between the early stages of recovery and the more demanding strengthening, running and sport-specific stages of rehabilitation.
WHAT IS SOMATIX SPORT?
Somatix Sport takes a gentle, structured approach to returning to movement. Rather than concentrating solely on muscles and joints, it also considers how the brain, nervous system and body work together to influence balance, coordination, movement awareness and confidence.
The emphasis is on quality of movement rather than intensity. Exercises are introduced gradually and adapted to the participant’s present ability and stage of recovery.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The programme may be suitable for athletes and sportspeople who:
• Have had their injury professionally assessed
• Have been cleared to begin gentle, low-load movement
• Feel cautious or less confident when returning to movement
• Need gradual preparation before progressing to greater physical demands
• Want movement support alongside their existing rehabilitation programme
Participation should always follow the advice provided by the athlete’s physiotherapist, doctor or other qualified healthcare professional.
WHAT MAY A SESSION INCLUDE?
• Gentle mobility and controlled movement
• Eye and head coordination exercises
• Balance and proprioception work
• Contralateral and whole-body coordination
• Gentle neurodynamic sliding and gliding techniques
• Gradual reintroduction of walking and sporting movement patterns
• Movement-confidence exercises
WHERE DOES IT FIT?
A return-to-sport journey might include:
Professional assessment → gentle return to movement → progressive strengthening and conditioning → sport-specific rehabilitation → return to sport
These stages may overlap and every athlete’s recovery will be different. Progression should be guided by the appropriate healthcare and rehabilitation professionals.
WORKING ALONGSIDE PHYSIOTHERAPY
Somatix Sport does not diagnose or treat injuries. It is not a replacement for physiotherapy, medical care, strength and conditioning or sport-specific rehabilitation.
It is intended to work alongside these services by helping suitable athletes gradually rebuild movement awareness, coordination and confidence.
